 Week 4

What a beautiful week, weather wise to enjoy some outdoor learning. This week we enjoyed PE outside and we also explored the Wildlife Garden in search of wild flowers, trees and plants. We had an identification sheet to help us and this information was then included in our leaflets. In History, we compared schools from the past to modern schools. We started the afternoon experiencing what it was like in a classroom 100 years ago to a modern classroom. In Maths this week we worked really hard completing addition and subtraction calculations. We have used part-part whole and bar models to assist our understanding. We had a fabulous day on Friday dressed in something 'funny for money'. It was so lovely to see the children's reactions as they arrived in the morning.

Week 3

This week we started to find out about the features of leaflets in English. We then began to create our own about Pendle's Wildlife Garden. We wrote an introductory paragraph, one about wildlife and one about the mud kitchen. We included subheadings and pictures too. In spelling this week we focused on homophones, words which sound the same but aren't spelt the same. We enjoyed playing games in groups to help our understanding. This week we also really enjoyed a skipping workshop visit. We found out how to skip forwards and backwards and some other trick style skips. In RE we found out about the importance of prayer in Islam. This week in Science we conducted an investigation into the stretchiness of a variety of objects. We thoroughly enjoyed working together to make our discoveries and what a great experience for Science Week!

Week 2

We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day on Thursday. We were involved in so many fun activities. We started the day creating our own positive affirmation bookmarks, then headed outside for a book treasure hunt and finally, before lunch, we shared the text 'The Lion Inside' by Rachel Bright and Jim Field. We enjoyed discussing the characters and making lion masks to use in role as the lion. In the afternoon, we enjoyed sharing books with Year 4 children. We make dens with blankets and read to one another by torchlight. Later in the afternoon, our parents and carers visited class. We'd chosen a library book to share with them. A really wonderful day celebrating our love of books! In SODA this week, we developed our speaking and listening skills by playing an odd one out game in pairs. This week we continued to develop our kicking skills in PE, we are really enjoying doing PE outside now the weather is better.

Week 1

A superb start to this half term. We are really enjoying our new text in English 'Donkey and Goat in the Great Outdoors'. This week we have been busy exploring unfamiliar vocabulary and considering the thoughts and feelings of the characters. In Maths we have been measuring the mass of various objects and ordering masses from heaviest to lightest and lightest to heaviest. We really enjoyed doing PE outside this week. We focused on our kicking skills, developing our control and accuracy by kicking to a target and using the space around us. In Science, we started our unit 'Materials and their uses'. We recapped the names of a variety of materials and thought about why objects are made from particular materials. We then explored changing the shape of a solid by applying a force such as twisting, squashing and stretching. We really enjoyed using the Play Doh to do this. In PRSHE this week we thought about what had made us happy. We recorded this in our Reflection Journals. We also enjoyed a calming relaxation technique recommended to us from the Wellbeing Warriors. On Friday M&M Productions visited school and performed 'The Jungle Book', wow it was fantastic! The actors, costumes and scenery were superb!
