Welcome back to Spring 2! We are looking forward to a busy and exciting half term.
In History, we will continue our work on the Ancient Egyptians, using a range of sources to investigate and understand their fascinating beliefs. In Geography, the children will be exploring how rainforests are changing, including opportunities to observe our own wildlife garden. Year 4 will continue their swimming lessons and enjoy Forest School sessions, while Year 3 will take part in rugby lessons during PE. They will also be developing their musical skills by exploring pentatonic melodies and composing pieces linked to the Chinese New Year. We are very much looking forward to the learning ahead.
In History, our children had a wonderful time taking part in an exciting Egyptian workshop led by Professor Tuesday. She was incredibly knowledgeable and brought our history learning to life with a fun, formative session that helped us recap everything we have studied about the Ancient Egyptians. The children were especially fascinated by the 90‑day ritual involved in mummification, and they thoroughly enjoyed exploring each step of the process through hands‑on activities and engaging discussion. It was a memorable experience that enriched our topic and sparked lots of curiosity. Well done to all the children for their enthusiasm!
This term, in Geography, the children have enjoyed learning about the Amazon Rainforest. To finish the topic, they explored how we can help protect our planet and promote sustainability. They completed a sustainability audit around school, celebrating what we already do well and suggesting new ideas to help us improve. We are very proud of their enthusiasm and thoughtful contributions.
As part of our Art topic, our pupils have been busy stepping back in time! We are delighted to share that the children have now completed their own Ancient Egyptian–style scrolls. The class created their very own “papyrus” paper and then designed scrolls to represent themselves, inspired by traditional Egyptian art and symbols. The children showed fantastic creativity, focus and enthusiasm throughout the project.
This week in PRSHE, our students took part in a practical First Aid workshop. During the session, they learnt and practised key lifesaving skills, including how to perform CPR. Pupils also explored what to do if someone is choking and now feel more confident in responding safely and calmly in an emergency situation. We are proud of how well the children engaged with the workshop and the important skills they have developed.

In Maths, our Year 3 children have been exploring the properties of 2D shapes. They have been identifying parallel and perpendicular lines and using this knowledge to sort and make a variety of shapes.
Our Year 4 children have been mastering a division strategy called the chunking method. This approach helps pupils understand division by breaking it down into manageable steps and using multiplication facts they already know.
The children enjoyed a fun session this week practising their skipping skills and learning a range of new techniques. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and determination as they challenged themselves and supported one another.
In DT, our pupils have been busy working on their final pencil case projects. This week, they have been carefully cutting out their chosen embellishments and have now begun sewing them onto their designs. The children are showing fantastic creativity and growing confidence with their textile skills. We are looking forward to seeing the finished products!
In English, we have been enjoying the story of Gulliver’s Travels. The children have been busy designing their own imaginative islands that Gulliver will visit on his journey home after leaving Lilliput. We have been focusing on using expanded noun phrases to describe the features of our islands, helping to bring each one to life with rich detail and creativity.
We have had a wonderful World Book Day, enjoying stories together in our comfiest clothes! The children loved sharing their favourite books, and we had a fantastic time reading with our friends from Elm Class. It was a lovely way to celebrate the joy of reading and discover new stories together.
In PE, Year 3 have been developing their rugby skills through a range of fun and engaging activities. The children have been practising how to throw and receive a swing pass, focusing on accuracy, control, and teamwork. They have also taken part in different small-sided games designed to build confidence, improve coordination, and introduce key principles of rugby in a safe and enjoyable way.
This week in Music, Year 3 children have been exploring the glockenspiels and learning to play using the pentatonic scale. This five‑note scale is found in many styles of traditional music from around the world, especially in Chinese music, and provides a wonderful foundation for creative composition. The children have also practised pentatonic melodies with growing confidence and musical awareness.
We are delighted to share that children have started bringing in their Extreme Reading photographs, and we are absolutely loving them! It is wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic about celebrating reading in fun and creative ways. Developing a love of reading is incredibly important, and just 20–30 minutes of reading at home each day can make a huge difference. Regular reading supports children’s progress in all areas of the curriculum—building vocabulary, confidence, comprehension, and imagination.

This week in History, the children have been exploring a range of historical sources linked to ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses. We have been looking closely at how different historians interpret these sources and how their claims can vary depending on the evidence they use.
In Maths, our children have been working hard and developing some important skills!
Year 3 have been focusing on using number lines to solve division problems. They have been practising how to divide by making equal jumps on the number line.
Year 4 have been exploring factors of numbers. They have been learning how to identify all the numbers that divide exactly into a given number and have been using this knowledge to spot factor pairs. This supports their understanding of multiplication and division.
