WB 23.02.2026
This weeks focus is –ant and –ent. Telling the difference between –ant and –ent endings can be tricky, because they sound almost the same. This means we can’t rely on pronunciation to help us spell them correctly.
We will be investigating and pattern‑spotting, by looking closely at groups of words, root words and how the endings are used. We can begin to identify spelling patterns that make these words easier to understand and remember.eg.
a) After a hard ‘g’ or a hard ‘c’ or a ‘t’ or a ‘v’, we usually use -ant.
b) After a soft ‘g’ or a soft ‘c’ or ‘qu’ or ‘d’, we usually use -ent.
