This half-term, we are exploring the theme “What is the Past?” through exciting events such as Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day, and Christmas. We will also be learning about real-life superheroes like firefighters and doctors, inspired by stories such as Zog and the Flying Doctors.
In Maths, Reception will focus on numbers to 10, while Year 1 will explore shape, sequencing, fractions, capacity, money, and time.
Our Science topic is Everyday Materials, where we will investigate what things are made from and test their properties. In RE, we’ll learn about Christianity, exploring why Jesus is seen as the light of the world and discover the meaning of Advent and Christmas. In DT, we will design our own moving greetings cards, and in PRSHE, we’ll think about valuing differences and celebrating what makes each of us unique.
We are also looking forward to preparing for our Nativity/Christmas performance. A wonderful opportunity for children to shine, build confidence, and celebrate together at the end of term!
We have enjoyed creating beautiful fireworks patterns using paint and making bright bursts of colour with chalk. We listened to and discussed the different sounds that fireworks make, and came up with fantastic words to describe them, such as bang, whizz and pop. The Year 1 children added the suffix -ing to the words.
