Autumn 2

Here is an overview of our learning this half term.

English - We are exploring stories with repetitive patterns and stuctures, as well as practising a range of non-fiction writing.
Maths Units: Geometry: 2D & 3D Shape, Counting, Multiplication and Sorting, Statistics, Fractions, Capacity and Volume, Money & Time
Science - Everyday Materials. We will distinguish between objects and the material/s they are made from. We will then test the different properties of materials i.e. waterproofness, absorbency.
PE - Dance!
RE - We are continuining our exploration of Christianity and will discuss why Christians see Jesus as the light of the world. We will also learn about Advent and Christmas.
PRSHE -  Valuing Differences... What is the same and different about us? We will be exploring our similarities and differences, considering how being kind to ourselves and others is always important. We will explore the concept of bullying too, discussing what it is and its impact on others.
Music - We're exploring how to use our voices and instruments to make different sounds and play simple rhythms in time with a steady beat. We’re also learning to work together and take on different roles when performing as a group.

The following subjects continue over Autumn 1 and Autumn 2:

History - What is history? We will learn about what history is, placing significant life events on a timeline and talking about the past and present.
Geography - What is it like here? We will explore our school grounds, creating and exploring maps before then making our own suggestions for how areas could be improved.
Art - Drawing: We are going to explore and share our opinions on the work of LS Lowry. We will then investigate techniques and effects used by the artist and apply these within our own artwork.
DT - Sliders and Levers: We will investigate different slider and lever mechanisms, practise creating our own and then apply those skills to create our own greetings cards.

Week 4

The sound of music has filled the air in Pine Class this week. We are in full swing practising for the Christmas performance. The children are really enjoying the songs and the learning the actions. It's going to be a wonderful festive celebration to enjoy. This week in Science we recapped the properties of various materials, we know that objects are made from certain materials to suit their uses. We conducted an investigation into the absorbency of various materials. We enjoyed making predictions, conducting the test and discussing the data we collected. We are continuing to enjoy the text 'George and the Dragon' by Chris Wormell. This week we thought of physical characteristics to describe a dragon and then created our own dragon using AI. We really enjoyed seeing our creations come to life and were really excited to share our dragons with our friends. We have been involved in lots more outdoor learning this week. We are really enjoying the opportunities across the curriculum to get wrapped up and head outside.

Week 3

This week we began our 'Cheerdance' topic in PE. This unit is going to help us build strength and improve coordination through disciplined strong movements. This week we performed basic movements to music, and we will build a simple themed dance focusing on Cheerdance drills. In English this week we continued to explore the dragon and George the mouse in our text 'George and the Dragon'. We wrote thought and speech bubbles and generated adjectives to describe the dragon's emotions at various points in the story. We made dragon faces and wrote the adjectives in the fiery flames. In Science this week we discussed the properties of materials. We made 'Feely Boards' and described the properties of the materials we attached. For example, the sandpaper was rough and thin. In Maths, we have been doubling. We used multi-link cubes to help us practically and we also used doubling diagrams. We partitioned the number into tens and ones, then we doubled the tens and the ones before finally recombining.

Week 2

This week there was a lot to celebrate. We started the week recognising Anti Bullying Week. We wore odd socks to school and discussed the importance of kindness and treating everyone with respect. We spoke about who we might speak to if we ever observed bullying or felt we were being bullied. This week we also celebrated Interfaith Week. To recognise and remember this important event, we each designed a paving stone. We will choose one design to make and this will feature in the 'Pathway of Peace' in the Wildlife Garden. On Friday we wore non-uniform to raise money for Children in Need 2025. The children enjoyed finding out about the charity and making Pudsy face masks. This week we really enjoyed visiting the Wildlife Garden to take part in outdoor learning with Mrs Palmieri. We really enjoyed wearing our waterproofs and wellies and enjoying nature and lots of fun team-building activities. In English we are thoroughly enjoying our new text 'George and the Dragon' by author Chris Wormell. We have generated questions to ask the dragon, explored unfamiliar vocabulary and we predicted the story title. In Maths we have completed our Addition and Subtraction unit of work. We made part part whole diagrams to solve calculations and added 3 single digit numbers, finding bonds to ten to help us.

Week 1

What a wonderful first week back! This week we have read a variety of firework and bonfire poems and created our own. We enjoyed generating vocabulary to include, focusing on the suffix ‘ing’, such as, popping, fizzing, twirling, soaring and sparkling. In Maths, we have used Base 10 and part part whole models to add and subtract two-digit numbers. We found the models useful particularly when looking at missing number calculations. In Art this week, we were drawing once again in the style of L.S Lowry using sketching pencils. This time we focussed on buildings rather than people. We included leaded windows, chimney pots and railings to imitate his style. We started our dance unit in PE. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the character of the ‘Big Bad Wolf’ from The Three Little Pigs. We used our bodies and facial expressions brilliantly to express the character. In RE this week we began our Christianity topic, considering the Christian belief of Jesus being the ‘Light of the World’. We made candle sun catchers and displayed them on our classroom windows. They look lovely and catch the light beautifully.
