In geography, this week we have been investigating lines of longitude and latitude. We learnt about the 5 major lines of latitude and how the climates change for countries around the world in relation to their position to the lines of latitude.

In maths, we have been focusing on place value and shape. This week we have mainly been investigating rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 with 4-digit numbers, by being able to identify the multiples before and after the number and deciding which the number is closest to. We even had some fabulous teachers come up to the front to share their knowledge with the class.

In English, we have been looking at the story of the eye of the storm. We have created our own kenning poems based on the video and have practised and performed them.

In PE this week, we were very lucky to have a tennis taster session. The children really enjoyed challenging themselves and have really helped us prepare for our net and wall unit of work. The children had a blast developing their skills.

In computing, we have been looking at animation and the children created their own animation based on the story Eye of the Storm, which we have been studying in English. The children did a fantastic job and used their animations to retell the story.

What a great first week back we have had in Ash Class! The children have come back with such a positive attitude and have settled back into school really well. In PRSHE, we have been talking about managing our emotions and looking at different ways we can deal with our feelings. We have also been exploring our class and school values of perseverance and resilience by taking part in a challenge to build the tallest paper tower. This wasn’t as easy as it sounds and we faced some tricky challenges along the way, but the children kept going, worked well together and didn’t give up! In Maths, we have been using place value counters to help us develop our understanding of exchanging. It has been a lovely first week and it has been great to see the children coming back so positively. We are really looking forward to the year ahead and all the exciting things we have planned!
