This week, the children have enjoyed a range of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum. In PE, they continued to develop their netball and football skills, focusing on passing, movement, control and teamwork through a variety of games and activities. The children worked hard to improve their confidence and decision-making, while demonstrating excellent cooperation and sportsmanship.
In History, we continued our learning about World War II by creating a scrapbook page all about the Blitz. The children researched key facts and used a combination of writing, images and creative presentation techniques to explain what happened during the bombing campaign and how it affected the lives of people across Britain. The finished scrapbook pages were both informative and imaginative.
In RE, we explored Christian beliefs about forgiveness and sin. Through thoughtful discussion and reflection, the children learnt why forgiveness is an important part of Christian faith and considered how showing understanding, compassion and forgiveness can positively influence relationships in everyday life.

We have had another busy and exciting week of learning in Year 6! We enjoyed using the online game Blooket to develop our spelling skills. We focused on the spelling rule “I before E, except after C” and had great fun testing our knowledge in a competitive and engaging way. We also used Blooket to strengthen our quick-fire recall of division facts, helping us become more confident and fluent mathematicians.
In History, we were fascinated to learn about life in the Royal Air Force during World War II. We listened to powerful first-hand accounts from people who served in the RAF and gained a deeper understanding of the challenges, sacrifices and experiences of those who played such an important role during the war.
In RE, we explored Christian teachings about sin and forgiveness through Bible stories. We discussed the temptation of Adam and Eve and studied the parable of The Prodigal Son, considering what these stories teach Christians about making mistakes, showing forgiveness and building positive relationships with others.

This week, Year 6 have enjoyed a range of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum. On Monday, the children took part in a fantastic LEGO STEM Challenge Workshop led by the RAF, where they worked collaboratively to solve problems, develop engineering skills and think creatively. In English, we explored the emotions and experiences of people during World War II by creating thoughtful blackout poetry, using carefully chosen words and phrases to express powerful thoughts and feelings. In Geography, we investigated population change, learning about how and why populations grow, decline and move over time, and considering the impact these changes can have on different places around the world. It has been wonderful to see the children demonstrating creativity, curiosity and teamwork throughout the week.

This week in Year 5 and 6 has got off to a fantastic start, with all of the children settling really well into their new classes. We have spent time getting to know one another while also making an excellent start to our learning. In English and Guided Reading, we have begun reading Goodnight Mr Tom and have explored the contrasting backgrounds and emotions of the two main characters at the beginning of the story. In Art, the children have started investigating gestural marks, using pencils and wax crayons to create a range of expressive movements and effects. Finally, in PE, we have launched our new unit on orienteering, where the children have begun developing their navigation and teamwork skills. It has been a brilliant first week, and we are looking forward to the exciting learning still to come this term.
