Earthquakes and Volcanoes

We have been learning about the structure of planet earth and the structure of volcanoes. We have been using atlases and online maps to locate the worlds 10 most famous volcanoes.

This week we researched one of the  eight most famous volcanoes in the world. We were learning why people lived near volcanoes and if these volcanoes were active, dormant or extinct. The children worked incredibly hard on their fact files.

This week we were considering why we have earthquakes and volcanoes. We investigated tectonic plates and understood how they earths crust is fits together like a jigsaw. We also made links to our KS1 learning about the continents and the name of the plates.

We used an orange to understand how the tectonic plates fit together, and how where the plates meet the earth crust is more vulnerable.
