The Suffragettes

We began this topic by trying to understand the emotions and feelings surrounding the start of the Suffragette movement. The children were given choices about what they wanted to do that afternoon in class...but only if they were a boy! We discussed how it made the children feel - some felt very angry and that it was unfair, some girls felt a little fed up, some of the boys thought it was fine as they felt it didn't affect them! We related this back to how it must have made the Suffragettes feel. We then discussed what life was like for women during the late 19th and early 20th century, we used our chronology skills to place the Suffragette movement in events of our wider historical knowledge.
