Summer 2 - Happy Holidays

Our topic this half term is "Happy Holidays" On the final day of the Summer 1 term, we had a look at some different holiday-related pictures and discussed what we would like to learn. It seems as though the children are very interested in camping, mermaids and protecting sea creatures. We are already looking forward to learning about these over the Summer 2 term!

Wednesday 7th July  We have been very excited today , wearing our football kits or red and white. We talked about what it means to be in a team, we thought about sports teams and team work we do to help each other.

Monday 28th June - We enjoyed our first ever school trip today! We visited St Mary’s Church. Reverend Froud taught us lots about all the different things which make the church special. He answered all of our questions and even taught the adults things that we didn’t know! We learned about church bells, the spire, the organ and much more about important things in a church. Thank you to Reverend Froud and HUGE well done to the children who made us all very proud with their sensible walking, super listening and excellent curiosity.

Friday 25th June We have been exploring floating and sinking. We made sailing boats and tested them in the water. We found that some big heavy objects can float. Some objects can float and sink, depending how you put them in the water. Can you find something at home that will float?

Thursday 24th June - This week has been so busy, we have been having too much fun to take lots of photographs but here a few snippets of our time!

We love a sing song in RZ!

Thursday 17th June Is it sand or sugar? We used our science investigation skills to work out which mystery material was sugar and which was sand. We knew it would not be safe to taste mystery materials but we smelt, touched, observed and then tested to see if it would dissolve in water.

We learnt how sand is made. We looked at pebbles and shells and explored pebble painting with water,  and made giant pebble patterns.

Wednesday 16th June - We do like to be beside the seaside! Our outdoor classroom transformed into the seaside today!

Earlier in the week, we discussed the history of the seaside. What has changed and what has stayed the same? We used the words "past" and "present" to talk about this. We then made a list of things we would need to take to the seaside in the present. One of the items was an inflatable! The only problem was it wasn't inflated! Miss Zak had a go using her breath. The children had a go using a balloon pump but we concluded that it was an electric pump which inflated our boat the quickest!

We have been enjoying a range of seaside activities - and the sun even shone for us! I think you'll be able to notice that we had a terrific afternoon!

We also chalked our own pictures of the seaside.

Monday 14th June - Football fever in RZ! We spoke about why football stadiums are special to football players and the supporters. We looked at the highlights of England's Euros match. I don't quite think the children understood that the clip kept repeating the same goal - as they celebrated each time the replay was shown and thought England had scored lots of goals! We started singing, "Football’s Coming Home." The children were very excited and enjoyed cheering for our country!

Wednesday 9th June - We have had a fantastic day on our very own camping adventure! In groups, we were able to spend our day outdoors to build dens, search for animals and we even had marshmallows! We built a fire, pretended to toast our marshmallows and then sang some campfire songs. The children particularly enjoyed the "Boom chicka boom" song! Lots of happy campers in RZ!

Tuesday 8th June - Our People & Communities / RE focus this term is "Special Places in our Community." We talked about places that are special to us and what makes them special. We also discussed that we all are different - so there are some places we all may find special such as school, but other places only some children may find special e.g. our homes. We decided to make a special place for our class bear Leo. I think the children enjoyed it a little more than Leo did! It became our special place too!

Tuesday 8th June - We are learning about camping and have enjoyed our new camping role play area. Our Maths focus is repeating patterns. We have been showing our independence and technology skills by using the iPads safely to picture our own work.

Monday 7th June - We were very excited to return to school today and find butterflies! Our chrysalises had finally become butterflies. We were very gentle to let them fly away.
