Summer 1

Living Things and their Habitats

The children were excited to find out what their new topic would be.

To begin each child chose an animal/creature of their choice and wrote down it`s habitat and why it was needed/essential.

"I know that a pig`s habitat is in the mud so it can live and breathe". (JW)

"I know that a lynx`s habitat is in the jungle where it can pounce on predators". (JL)

"I know that a dolphin`s habitat is the sea". (MD)

"I know that a bear`s habitat is a cave to look after babies". (GG)

Beans

Here is an update and progress record of our beans that we planted last ter. Look out Giant!

Today we learnt about things that are alive, dead and have never been alive. The Children explored the Wildlife garden and sorted things into the 3 categories.

Microhabitats

After a recap from last week of Living, Dead and never been alive we were ready to continue with our habitat learning.

The children were unsure of what a microhabitat was so we watched a Powerpoint to gather information.

Today we linked the creatures and their microhabitat followed by creative work to make minibeasts.

Next week we will describe and explain the reasons for a creature choosing particular places to live.

Looking for Minibeasts and finding their habitats in the Wildlife Garden.

Fantastic recapping about habitats.

We have been learning about food chains and completed a quiz together. The children wrote down food chains in their books then designed and made their own.
