Spring 2: Castles and Kingdoms

Week 6

25th - 28th March

We went on a spring walk to look for signs of spring.

The king needed our help. The jewels are falling off his crown but he has no glue. Could we use ketchup, butter or jam as glue? We realised that the glass jewels were too heavy. Butter was the best glue. We made some new crowns for the king.

Building castles for our superheroes!

Super King and Queen drawings!

Week 5

18th - 22nd  March

Spring is coming!

E perfectly demonstrated our class value, creativity! She designed her own butterfly costume, including wings! She then developed her ideas further by adding antennae! Since then, others in class have taken inspiration and we have now had cats too! I look forward to seeing the creativity continue!

Happy Holi! We have been learning about the Hindu dharma festival of colour! Part of the celebrations involve throwing gulal (coloured powder) at one another.

We were in a happy hoppy bunny mood on Friday for the bunny run! Thank you FOPS for organising such a fun bunny hop! I was so proud of our persevering (and very exhausted) little bunnies!

Addition! We have been adding 2 single digit numbers with an answer more than 10.

Observational drawings of Spring flowers! We learned all about what it means when flowers bloom and have enjoyed observing how the flowers have changed each day.

We became royal photographers and royal portrait artists. We had to try and sit very still.

Week 4

11th - 15th March

More delicious bread baking.

We thought about responsibility and how we could help our world by recycling.

Busy writers during learning choice time!

A visit from a very special Mummy! The children loved meeting baby Erin and asking Miss Lancaster lots of questions! When P asked Miss L, “What’s it like being a mummy?” Miss Lancaster said it is the best thing ever! 💜

We have been learning why people celebrate Mothers’ Day and talking/drawing about what makes our mummies so wonderful!

Double, double, add the same again!

Halving / sharing amounts between two parts.

Week 2

26th February - 1st March

For our Forest Thursday time this week, we used natural materials found around the school grounds to create gigantic coat of arms shields! Super teamwork!

I am so proud of our independent writing!

In Music, we are learning about instruments. Today, we learned about instruments in an orchestra and spoke about the different families they belong to as well as the important job of a conductor! The children enjoyed listening to and watching the clip below, pointing out the instruments they could see and watching the conductor keep the orchestra organised.

Pirates of the Caribbean (Auckland Symphony Orchestra) 1080p

Some more delicious bread making. The classroom smells great!

Following lots of discussion about the Blackburn Rovers game, the children enjoyed their own penalty shoot out! Before and following the match this week, we have spent time talking about the importance of believing “We can do it!” when faced with a challenge!

A star of subtraction! 🌟

Exploring different coat of arms. We learned why families and knights had these in the past and discussed how different teams and groups might have badges now which represent something special to them. The children designed their own cost of arms.

Super castle drawings!

A window into what a typical morning in RZ looks like!

Week 1

19th - 23rd February

We went to look for clues, to see if a dragon had been in our school grounds. We found burnt wood . Had the dragon been burning things? We talked about how fires can be very hot even after they have gone out so children must never go near them. Mrs Govender checked that the wood was cold and safe before we touched it. We enjoyed drawing our own dragons with the charcoal.

In PE, we are practising different gymnastic rolls.

As part of our ‘Rights and Responsibilities’ theme this half term, we have been exploring why our planet is special. We went on a walk to collect items which are special. We then drew the them, paying close attention to their details and what makes them special.

If I had my own Earth...

We will be revisiting this poem over the term as we learn about our responsibility to look after our planet.

Addition using a tens frame.

Super tap board creatures!

Practising our cutting skills to make dragons!
