Summer 1 - Christianity

We found out about the features of a Christian Church. We worked collaboratively to create posters about our new knowledge.

We learnt about Christian symbols. We made a dove which symbolises peace and hope. 🕊️

We really enjoyed another visit from Godly Play today. We found out about baptism and important symbols in Christianity.

We really enjoyed a visit from Imran Kotwal from Muslim Learner Services. We found out lots about Ramadan and Eid. We tried on clothing, found out about fasting and Eid celebrations. Some of us tried dates too!

We really enjoyed a visit from two of Pendle’s Islam Faith Ambassadors. The children explained prayer so well and Mrs Kennerley is very proud of them.

What do Muslims use when they pray?

We found out that prayer is important for Muslims. The Holy Qur’an teaches that Muslims should pray five times a day at certain times (roughly: dawn, midday, late afternoon, sunset and between sunset and midnight). Prayer involves ritual movements, which include standing up, kneeling down and bowing foreheads to the floor. We know that it is important for Muslims to pray towards Makkah, Saudi Arabia, which is the site of the Ka'aba (cube), the holiest site for Muslims. Muslims use prayer mats when they pray, sometimes with images of the Ka’aba on them.

We explored prayer mats. We looked at and touched real prayer mats. We looked at the patterns and followed the rules about no people or animals. We then designed our own.

Looking at our daily routines and why we have routines in our lives.

Spring 1 - Hindu dharma

A wonderful visit to the Gujarat Temple in Preston.

We found out that in the religion Hindu dharma there is one God worshipped in many forms. We looked at many Gods and Goddesses and studied murtis too.

We explored jobs in the community and the qualities people who do these jobs possess.

Autumn 2 - Christianity

Finding out about and making Christingles.

Acting out the Christian story of the First Christmas using stick puppets.

Learning about Advent and creating advent wreaths.

We enjoyed listening to visitors of faith during Interfaith week 2023.

We discussed and thought about why Christians say that Jesus is the ‘light of the world’. We found out that Christians believe Jesus is like a light in the darkness, providing comfort, hope and guidance. We made candle sun catchers and have displayed these on our classroom windows.

Autumn 1 - Christianity

What a wonderful time we had with the faith visitors from Godly Play. We enjoyed listening to the storyteller, asking wondering questions and responding to what we’d heard through craft.

We discussed our hopes and concerns for the world. We made 5 pledges to show how we can care for the world and what matters to us.

We found out about Harvest and what happens during this time. We considered the hard work of farmers to produce their crops and to feed the planet. We sang a song called ‘See the Farmer’.

The Christian Story of Creation.

We began our topic by exploring beauty in nature. We loved visiting the wildlife garden and using the iPads to take photographs. We also thought about not so nice aspects of our world such as litter. We picked up any litter we found and made sure it was put into the correct bin.
