Materials

This half term we have been looking at Materials and their properties.

We have explored a range of materials that we come across everyday, we have looked at their uses and have began to identify their properties. 

We began our topic by sorting a range of materials into sorting hoops. We did this activity twice, the first time the children had the opportunity to sort them using their own criteria. The second time the children sorted them into given criteria after they had learnt more about the materials the objects were made from. 

We then began to focus on what materials we could spot around the classroom, the children were given an object and it was their job to find objects in the classroom  made from that material. 

The children have really enjoyed using the classroom and the outside areas to find different everyday materials and discuss why they are good for their purpose.
