Houses and Homes

Victorian Wash Day

After lots of work on houses and homes we looked at how people would do their washing before there was electricity.

We spent time predicting what the different objects may have been used for. We had a range of different answers for the artefacts which we discussed before then finding out what their names and their uses.

The children had a fantastic time using the artefacts to act out the process. They used the dolly tub to wash clothes following the same process the Victorians did. We also discussed how some families would go to the wash house where they could pay to use the bigger machines to do their washing.
