Historical Clitheroe

An old plan of the school and when additional rooms were added.

We looked at a whole school photograph from 30 years ago and we spotted Mr Dibb.  We wrote questions to ask him so we can find out how Pendle Primary has changed over the years.

Mr Dibb responded to some of our questions which helped us to understand how Pendle Primary has changed over the years.

Thank you, Mr Dibb

We learnt about the mills that used to be in Clitheroe and how they produced cotton and textiles.  There used to be about 20 mills in Clitheroe!  We looked at Holmes Mill as it is now and how it used to be a textile mill in the past.  We looked at photographs and images of mule spindles and looms.  We couldn’t believe that young children used to work in the mills sweeping up the cotton dust.  A lot of the workers became deaf because it was o noisy place  and there were no ear defenders to wear in the past. The workers had to be able to lip read to communicate over noise!

We used different textures to create a weaving.  It was very tricky to go under and over!
