Autumn 2

Is it a multiple of 2, 5 or 10?

The children have enjoyed playing a range of games recapping addition, subtraction, one more and one less, represent a selection of numbers using base 10, grouping using repeated addition and adding 10 to a 2-digit number.

The children have been represented repeated addition number sentences by making equal groups.

We have been enjoying our mastering number sessions - exploring odd and even numbers.

We have been learning how to double 2-digit numbers by partitioning the number into tens and ones, doubling the tens then the ones and finally recombining them. We then said the stem sentence double 11 is 22.

We have been recapping length by measuring twigs in centimetres.

We have been learning to double numbers by making a tower to represent our number then using the same number of cubes to make another tower then adding them together.

Exploring 3D shapes, we investigated the edges, the vertices, the faces and curved surfaces. We found out that the faces on a cuboid are all rectangular (square or oblong).

The children have been sorting a selection of 2D shapes using a range of criteria - name of shapes, number of sides or number of vertices.

We have been exploring 2D shapes.

We have been using geo-boards to make 2D shapes. Can you see what shapes we made?

Recapping rounding to the nearest ten. Mrs Worsley chose a number and we had to find the nearest ten. She learnt us a rhyme to help us remember. 1, 2, 3 and 4 rounding down is what it’s for. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 rounding up is mighty fine.

The children have been adding 3 digit numbers together without counting all the counters. They have been identifying patterns - number bonds to 10, doubles.

Recapping writing numbers in words.
