Autumn 1 UK Countries and their capitals

Our topic this half term is called UK Countries and their Capital Cities. England - London, Scotland - Edinburgh, Wales - Cardiff, Northern Ireland - Belfast.

In our first lesson we talked about where we live, the capital cities of the United Kingdom and the sizes of a town, county, country and continent.

Today we listened to the story of Funnybones. We shared our ideas how the dark, dark house was in a dark, dark street in a dark, dark town.

The children made circles of increasing size to show where our house fits into our town, county, country, continent and the world.

Today we began the lesson singing our song about the United Kingdom, recapping the countries and capital cities. During the afternoon the children found and linked the countries, cities and their corresponding flag.

This week we learnt lots about the buildings and attractions in London. What fantastic maps we made!

Billy the monkey was waiting for the children today ready with his non fiction book about Edinburgh.

We looked at Google maps and searched for Edinburgh zooming in on the Castle. After watching a short film about Barnaby Bear visiting Edinburgh Castle the children drew their own plans of the castle.
