Autumn 1

British Values: Tolerance of others

In response to the situation with the Evacuation in Kabul we had an in-depth class discussion about why the events were happening. We looked at news articles and watched clips to help us understand more. We then thought about what it meant to be a refugee and imagined how it might feel. We talked about what our response might be if we had a refugee join our class, the children showed a lot of empathy and kindness to how hard it might be to have experienced such terrors and thought about how they could make someone feel welcome.
We then produced a piece of artwork in response to imagining someone having lived through such experiences in their lives and how hard it is for us to really imagine the situation in Afghanistan, we all felt that we needed to appreciate how lucky we are to live in a peaceful country. Our artwork is up on display in our cloakroom corridor, we have called our art “Behind their eyes”. We used images from the media to create a multi-layer piece of art using pencil  shading and black marker pen.
