Summer 2 Judaism

1D linked RE with Art and English to create 3D plates of food for the special people in their lives.

The children made amazing decorated fabric to cover Challah bread before it is blessed.

This week the children learnt about the Jewish day of rest observed every week from Friday at sunset until Saturday night. It is called Shabbat.

It is celebrated as a day of rest because Jewish people believe God work for 6 days and on the seventh he rested.

We made their special bread called Challah where the 3 strands represent truth, peace and justice. Two loaves are made to represent the 6 days that God worked.

During 1D`s final half term we will study Judaism and think about the question `What aspects of life really matter?`

We are going to be looking to be learning about Jewish beliefs and practices linked to the Sabbath (Shabbat)

The children have been thinking about who is important and why. They have produced some wonderful work explaining the reasons why their person is special.

Today we looked at a Torah and learnt how it was written in Hebrew. The children then made their own and wrote rules to make them a good person. We linked this to the story of Moses and the Ten Commandments.
