Summer 1

We looked at Digimaps of Alice Springs to find out what it was like to live there.

We found out about the lives of the culture of some of the people who live there. These are paintings done in the style of Aboriginal art found in the Australian Outback around the town of Alice Springs.

A Non European small locality study

Images of Australia

We looked at a lot of different images of lanscapes on a powerpoint. The children discussed in pairs what they could see.Further images were shared between the children and they had to jot down what they could see. The images were rotated between the groups so that all the children had the opportunity to respond to each photograph.

To find where in the world our locality study is we began by looking at a map of the world. We used Atlas's to find the names of all the seven continents then learned a song to help us to remember them. The children worked in pairs to create a world map of their own using jigsaw pieces of each continent. They used an Atlas to help them place each continent in the correct place (North or South of the Equator) They then labelled the Continents and Oceans using their Atlas as a reference.
