Spring 1

Significant Person- Neil Armstrong

we started this unit by asking the question what makes a person significant?
We then compared the events that made Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong significant people even though their expeditions were centuries apart.

This week we have been imagining we were journalists back in 1969 and we were reporting on the events of the moon landing. We were considering what happened during the mission and why was it such a momentous event.

This week we have been considering the chronology of the different astronauts that have been into space. Did you know a fruit fly was the first creature to travel into space?

We have been comparing the astronaut Mae Jemison to Neil Armstrong. We used secondary sources of evidence to ask questions about Mae’s life.

This week we were asking questions about how Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made it to and back from the moon safely. We asked about what they did at the moon and what equipment they took to carry out their mission and to make sure they were safe.
