This week in UKS2, we’ve been busy with a range of exciting learning. In geography, the children explored how humans use mines, focusing on the Mojave Desert and its many purposes, including military use, tourism, settlements, mining, ranching and renewable energy. On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day by diving into The Mysterious Story of Francis Brandywine and her disappearance in Quetico National Park; the children produced detailed police reports and even wrote their own short sequels to continue the mystery. In English, we continued our work on legends, studying the tale of Finn McCool and Benandonner linked to the Giant’s Causeway, the story of The Waterhorse, and the classic legend of George and the Dragon.

This week in UKS2 has been full of exciting learning across the curriculum. In History, we explored the origins of democracy in Ancient Greece, and the children even held their own debate to experience how decisions were made thousands of years ago. In Maths, we have been working hard on all things fractions—practising how to add, subtract, multiply and divide them with increasing confidence. In PE, we continued developing our badminton skills by using balloons to help the children get used to the light weight and control needed for a shuttlecock, making for a fun and energetic session.
🎠A Special Treat!
We were very lucky on Friday morning to watch a brilliant production of The Jungle Book. The children were captivated from start to finish, and it was a wonderful way to end the week.
