Our Learning

We have completed our first half term!

As we come to the end of a wonderful 8 weeks, I would like to thank you all for your support. It has flown by so quickly, but we are already amazed with the wonderful moments and memories we have created and shared as a class. Thank You to all parents for supporting your children through their first half term - I hope you are getting to hear about all the wonderful things we have learned so far. Most of all, Thank You to all the children in RZ who have made our first half term a delight! Me and the rest of the team are blown away by how many times we have smiled, laughed and felt totally amazed/proud of the excellent things the children have done. Whilst we think we might all need a well-deserved break, we cannot wait to see what the Autumn 2 term brings as we learn all about Super Powers!

Thursday 22nd October - Our last day of term was a theme day ("Me and My Relationships"). We started the day by talking about who helps us at home and school. We talked to the people around us and then drew around our hands to list the people who help us. Then, we spoke about our likes and dislikes and discussed that's it's ok not to enjoy something, as long as we give it a good go. In the afternoon, we read the Colour Monster. We listed all the different feelings and then placed our names in the different feelings jars. We decided that's it's always good to talk about our feelings and share them with the people around us. It was a great way to end what has been a fantastic term.
Monday 19th October - In Maths, we're learning all about the number five. Can you show 5? Can you do 5 hops? Do you know any nursery rhymes with the number 5? Have a go at practising writing the number 5 at home - we say the rhyme, "Down and around, then a flag on high. That's the way we make a five."
Monday 19th October - After speaking about our best friends, we opened a letter from Goldilocks! She explained that she was really sorry for breaking into our classroom last week. She told us that she has no friends or family like we do, but saw that our classroom looked full of love and kindness. The children decided that we will forgive and be good friends to her. Then, we went outside to make special friendship potion. We added sprinkles of kindness, drops of sharing, and lots of other ingredients which make for a good friendship.
Monday 19th October - This week, we are learning all about Friendship. We started our day off by drawing a picture of our best friend. We then explained what makes them our best friend.
Friday 16th October - Also today, we enjoyed some Cosmic Yoga. The yoga followed the story of the Hungry Caterpillar. The children did a great job of joining in!
Friday 16th October - Outdoors today, with Mrs Davy, we have been making some Autumn-coloured handprints. We are going to add these to an Autumnal display in the classroom. This was a great way to demonstrate our class value - creativity!

Friday 16th October - Often, during our Learning Choice time, I like to play some Disney songs which create a calming atmosphere in the classroom and always brings out some brilliant dance moves! These is a lovely video from today - it's so great to see the children grow in confidence in the classroom and share with us their favourite songs!

Thursday 15th October - Our Maths focus today was to use the terms "tall, taller, taller" and "short, shorter, shortest." We made some Lego towers, we compared our height to our friends and our focus activity was to order the Three Bears in height order.
Wednesday 14th October - Yesterday, we received a video message from Mother Bear. She told us that Goldilocks stole her favourite porridge recipe. We decided that we should make some porridge, so that we can make a new recipe for Mother Bear!
Monday 12th October - It's been a busy day for the detectives in RZ. We have been looking at the evidence all day; a ribbon, porridge and broken furniture! There was trail leading outdoors. We used magnifying glasses to look closely, taking pictures on the iPad and stamping ink fingerprints to show we had taken a look at the scene. We all decided that it must have been Goldilocks! These are just some of the many (many!) photos which we took on the iPads.
Monday 12th October - Look! Somebody has been in our classroom over the weekend, and just look at what a mess they have made! They've even left a trail of crumbs from our Home Corner all the way outside to the Willow Tunnel... who could it be? Today, the children in RZ will become detectives to take a closer look at the Crime Scene. What clues can they spot?
Thursday 8th October - Today, a letter appeared in our classroom. It was from Mother Pig! She is SAFE. She was with the Big Bad Wolf, but the letter told us that he is actually the kindest wolf ever. She also sent us a book, "Who's afraid of the Quite Nice wolf?" so that we could learn all about him. We also listened to a special video message sent straight to us from a Police Officer! She thanked us for all of our help in finding Mother Pig. Great work RZ!
Tuesday 6th October - HELP! Mother Pig has gone missing. She was last seen at the tip. Some children think she might have been searching for bricks, some think she was clearing out the Three Little Pigs' belongings, and some think that perhaps the Big Bad Wolf has taken her! Can you help us to find her?

Help us to find Mother Pig!

Monday 5th October - Today, in PE, was have been focussing on two of the Fundamental Movement Skills - hopping and jumping. We rotated around a circuit to try different activities. Miss Smith also played some games with us using the parachute.
Friday 2nd October - In Literacy this week, we have been learning to retell the story of the Three Little Pigs. We worked in teams to create Story Maps and each took a turn to write something one of the characters might say. Whilst we were doing this, Mrs Davy worked with groups outside to create masks and then retell the story! We sat on our special storytelling chair and acted it all out. We had a great time!
Friday 2nd October- This week, we have started to learn some letters from the alphabet, and the sounds they make. Each morning, we write the letter on our whiteboard, and practise saying the sound together. After learning, s a t, we all wrote "sat" on our boards and discussed sentences with the word 'sat' in them. We also met Metal Mike - he checks we are using our Robot Arms to segment words (e.g. sat -> /s/ /a/ /t/). We then clap our hands to blend the word back together, and then feed the word to Mike. He always thinks we do a great job! You could practise this at home too using other CVC words (cat / bag / peg / lip etc).
Friday 2nd October - Help! The little pigs have a hole in their roof. How can we keep them dry?
Wednesday 30th September - This week, we have been learning all about the story of the Three Little Pigs. In the Continuous Provision, Miss Zak had painted one of the pigs, and left out some paints. Here are some examples of the pigs created by the children.
Tuesday 29th September - On Tuesday afternoons, we are lucky enough to all have time in the Computer Room with Miss Bowden. Look at how much we have all enjoyed getting to learn how to use the computers!
Friday 25th September. We chose different materials to make beds. We decided we wanted the materials to be soft, fluffy and bouncy. Straw was too itchy and spiky. Wood was too hard. The corrugated cardboard was too bumpy.
Thursday 24th and Friday 25th September - This week, we have discussed what we need to build a house. Then, during our learning choice time, we have spent time building houses using the construction blocks and Lego. We have worked on our own and in teams to build great houses.
Wednesday 23rd September - Today, our challenge was to draw houses on our whiteboards.
Tuesday 22nd September - This morning, our challenge on our whiteboards was to write the number one. We remember a poem -  "Start at the top and down we run. That's the way we make a one." We then all drew one item - e.g. one house, one person...
Monday 21st September  - This week, we are learning all about the number one. We all joined in and did one jump, one hop and one clap. In the Maths tray, we have been making our own Numberblock 'one' figures.
Thursday 17th and Friday 18th September - After listening to the story, "The Listening Walk" we made our very own Listening Ears. We went on our own Listening Walk around school. The next day, Mrs Davy and Mrs Gibson took us onto our Playground with our own whiteboards and pens. We drew all the different things we could hear.
Thursday 17th September - Today, we had our first ever PE lesson! We just changed into our pumps today, but hopefully we will be able to all change into our full PE kits soon. We played follow the leader first, and then enjoyed lots of different ring games.
Monday 14th September - We listened to the story "My Two Dads and Me." We discussed how all families are different, and what makes our families special. Then, each of us used a pencil to draw a picture of our families.
