Forest Thursdays

Forest Thursday is our weekly session to go out and explore the outdoors! Often, this takes place in our Wildlife Garden… which the children often see as Forest! We put on our puddle suits when appropriate and make the most of being able to be loud, to be super explorers and get a little muddy! Some Forest Thursday sessions may be uploaded into the term folder, as they often overlap with our topic!

Nature pictures in the style of Archimboldo. We collected a variety of natural objects, such as leaves and flowers. When then practised our printing skills to press them into the clay to create a portrait.

We explored clouds this week! We explored different shapes/colours we see in clouds, and when we stared at a cloud for a while, noticed they can look like different animals or objects. We used pastels to draw these on our clipboards.

Re-enacting Neil Armstrong’s Moon Landing!

Winter Walk around the cricket pitch! We stomped, jumped, crunched and ran in the snow!

After the children showed so much enjoyment and interest during making bird feeders on Tuesday, I thought we could spend our Forest Thursday session making natural bird feeders. We started by using a stick, with a mud as the “glue.” Once we started to get our hands muddy, we noticed we could roll the mud into balls and roll them in the seeds too! After making our mud balls and stick feeders, we enjoyed playing mud monster! A forest Thursday FULL of smiles, giggles and laughter - the best kind of afternoons!

October

Leaf Man! We enjoyed making our own leaf pictures.

We have continued our exploration of autumn. Today we went out around school to look for leaves, conkers and the children were particularly fascinated by the sycamore seeds. We enjoyed throwing them up and watching them spin back to the ground

We have loved our first forest Thursday session today. Today was all about practising to find and put on our wellies and learning how to stay safe in our special forest. We had a go at walking through puddles, and the children were fantastic at using words like ‘shallow” and “mucky’ and ’reflection’ to talk about the puddles and what they could see.
