Summer 2

Outdoor learning - Designing prototype 2

Designing prototype boxes to house ‘Pebble Pets’ 🐸 🐱 🐶 🐰

Today we explored stiffening and strengthening sheet materials. We used a variety of methods, laminating (gluing together layers of card), corrugating (using a zig zag piece of card between two pieces of card) and finally, ribbing (gluing layers of straws between layers of card)

We disassembled boxes to explore how they are constructed. We then made cubes from a nets.

Spring 2

We have made our hats! We are now adding decoration/embellishments.

The hat making process

We used a running stitch to join two pieces of fabric. We will use this technique to make our hat. We recognise we will turn our hat inside out so the stitching isn’t visible.

We enjoyed designing the hat we will make. We chose the style of hat, the colour/s and the embellishments we wish to add.

Wow we did so well today practising a running stitch ⭐️ 🪡

We practised using a needle to simulate a running stitch which we will use when we construct our own hats.

We drew our hats and labelled the features, we listed the fabric type and embellishments

We brought in a hat from home to explore how it is constructed and we added photographs of us wearing our hats to our DT display.

We explored the work of famous milliner Philip Treacy to begin our 2D to 3D topic. 🎩

Autumn 2

Making toasted sandwiches. Before making we selected the bread and ingredients we wanted to use. We have also learnt how to grate, chop and do a bridge hold to prepare food.

We enjoyed taste testing a variety of breads. We recorded our opinions and features of the bread 🥖 🍞 🥯
