Autumn 2

Clitheroe- a local study

This week our question was- ‘Has Pendle Primary changed over the years?’ We have been looking at artefacts to help answer the question. We were interested to read letters from 1981 telling the then head teacher how children could be disciplined. We fascinated to read the punishments some children got from walking on the grass. Other changes included the building being extended, sitting on wooden chairs in the hall for lunch.

We sorted the artefacts into chronological order, and discussed the changes through the decades.

We went for a walk around school looking for evidence that how the building has been used has changed through the years.

So many changes have occurred in Clitheroe through the centuries and decades. We looked at online images, maps and images to identify what changes have occurred and why we think the changes were made.

This week we have been exploring what were mills were used for in the past and how have their uses changed over the years. In 2M we were really interested in where in Clitheroe the mills had been in the past and how many were still standing today and what there purpose was today. We looked at maps from 1890, 1950 and 2022. We discovered most of the mills in Clitheroe had been demolished.

This week we have been observing the changes that have occurred at Clitheroe Castle over the years.
