Autumn 2

Mrs Hailwood came to Pendle School when she was a little girl! She told us what school was like in the past. We found out that the children didn't wear a uniform and that the girls and boys went in separate entrances. They also played on separate playgrounds! We also enjoyed looking through an old register and photo albums.

We have been busy learning all about why we wear Poppies at this time of year. We watched the beautiful Cbeebies Poppy Animation, before discussing the significance of Remembrance Day. The children created their own Poppies using different art materials.

"It's a love heart poppy!"

We listened to a story about Captain Tom Moore. We discussed his bravery, along with the other soldiers.

Can the children tell you about the war memorial?

We have been exploring Black History Month. The children have been learning about Rosa Parks. We began by discussing what is fair and what is unfair. We gave the children different scenarios to think about. We then read the book about Rosa Parks. Straight away, the children knew it was unfair what happened to Rosa. We created our own buses with a range a diverse people on them. We also acted out the scene where Rosa refused to give up her seat.
