Autumn 2

Keeping Healthy

We learnt about the importance of good hygiene. We observed how easily glitter germs can spread. The glitter germs spread across our hands to the children we touched. We investigated the best method to remove the germs. We used a paper towel, cold water and soap and warm water. We discovered you needed soap and water to wash them away.

The children considered how the felt before any exercise and how they felt afterwards.

My heart was beating faster - RC. I feel hot - JH. I am breathless GW.

The children investigated the question - What are the effects exercise has on our body?

We ordered the cereals, using the sugar content, from healthiest to unhealthiest. We then compared the results with out predictions.

We recorded how much sugar was in each cereal. We were surprised by the amount of sugar in froot loops because it has fruit in the name.

We looked at a range of breakfast cereals and ranked them in order to which we thought were the healthiest to the most unhealthy.

Which cereal do you think is the healthiest?

What could you have for breakfast?

We created a healthy balanced meal.

The children had a range of foods to sort. They chose to group them by colour, healthy and not healthy and what they liked and didn’t like. We then discussed the food groups - dairy, protein, fruits and vegetables, fats and sugars and carbohydrates.

What we know about keeping healthy.
