Autumn 2

“Look I’ve made 1666, that’s when the Great Fire of London happened!”

We are still asking for this song now! We love to revisit our learning.

The Great Fire of London Day was a huge success! We used quills to write on old paper, just like Samuel Pepys! We created timelines; can the children remember when the fire started? We also created our own Puddling Lane and re-enacted the key events. A day the children will remember forever!

We kicked off our topic ‘Fire, Fire!’ by discussing fire safety. We thought about how fires are fought today and how we stay safe. We went on a walk around school to find evidence of fire safety equipment and notices. We then introduced the children to the Great Fire of London. We looked at some of the fire equipment they used in 1666. Can the children tell you what they are?

The children very respectfully observed the 2 minutes silence today. After, we listened to a story about Captain Tom Moore. We discussed his bravery, along with the other soldiers.

We have been busy learning all about why we wear Poppies at this time of year. We watched the beautiful Cbeebies Poppy Animation, before discussing the significance of Remembrance Day. The children created their own Poppies using different art materials.
