Autumn 1

We have been extremely busy trying to catch the Gingerbread Man. The children have showed so much enjoyment in making traps, creating wanted posters and retelling the story! Can the children retell the story of the Gingerbread Man for you?

Can you guess what sound the star group have been focusing on this week? We have been making party plates with food beginning with ‘p’, exploring size in the porridge and making magic pens to practise our letter formation.

One of the Three Bears has destroyed the instructions by accident. We had to put them back in the right order for Goldilocks.

We followed a set of instructions to make toast for Goldilocks. We enjoyed eating some too!

I think the children have enjoyed taking pictures of the evidence...

Who has been in OUR classroom?! Someone has broke Miss Lancaster’s chair and made a huge mess! The children got to work straight away. We spent the morning investigating and looking for clues. We drew and labelled the evidence, used the iPads to take pictures, took people’s fingerprints and worked together to try and find a conclusion. Fantastic team work!

Some of our exciting phonics provision!

We have been extremely busy making friendship recipes. We talked about what a recipe is and what a recipe needs. We then discussed what makes a good friend and what ingredients we would need to put into our recipe, including a sprinkle of kindness and a pinch of love.

This week we have been talking about our families. The children enjoyed listening to Miss Lancaster talk about her family, especially her niece Poppy. We read the book ‘The Great Big Book of Families’ and discussed different types of families and how they are all special.

The children made 'listening ears' ready for a listening walk. We read a story called 'The Listening Walk' before setting off. We listened very carefully and drew some of the things we could hear. We heard the wind, cars, children playing and dogs barking. Can you use your listening ears at home? What sounds can you hear in the environment?
