Legends of the British Isles

We are really enjoying our class novel - Outlaw by Michael Morpurgo which links to our 'Legends of the British Isles' unit as we explore the tale of Robin Hood.

17.9.21

We have begun generating some ideas for our own local legend writing. We will be planning and writing legends to explain how the hole in Clitheroe castle keep came to be. The children have been encouraged to visit the Castle over the weekend if possible to see if they can be inspired ahead of planning their legends on Monday. Here are some ideas the children came up with so far:

This week in our guided reading we have been investigating how writers create suspense and tension, and used this gained knowledge in our own writing

WB: 13.09.21

We have continued to explore legends of the British Isles this week. We have read 'Finn MaCool and the Giant's Causeway' from Ireland; 'The Loch Ness Monster' (The Water Horse by Dick King Smith) from Scotland; 'Gelert the Brave' from Wales and 'Robin Hood' from England.

We have been recapping the skill of using direct speech in our writing when producing a written piece of dialogue. You could have a look at the PowerPoint below to discuss these skills with your child at home and talk about their learning.

We enjoyed taking our reading outside this week to enjoy the shade in the September sunshine ☀️
