Irregular 2-D shape making using sticks on the school field
We have been learning about division and remainders.
A group of children played a connect 4 type game in pairs to work out the remainder of a division calculation.
We know that multiplication can be calculated in any order - we used arrays to help us to understand this:
We enjoyed being outdoors to work out the fractions of an amount!
We had to collect 12 leaves, for example and find 1/2 or 1/4 of the amount.
Position, movement and direction
During a recent Maths lesson on position, direction and movement a group of children had their own class zoo! The children had to follow instructions to get to a certain animal. The instructions included the vocabulary of left, right, forwards, backwards, in front of, behind and next to.
The children had to calculate how much water would be needed to = 100ml if 25ml, 35ml and 45ml of orange juice was added. They then voted for the tastiest combination.
